Tonkatsu
If you come over to Japan, you should have Tonkatsu. So you know Japanese cuisine, "Sushi".
But if you want to have meats, you try to have Tonkatsu.
You go to big Japanese cities, you can find Tonkatsu in department stores easily.

When you go to Tonkatsu restaurants,
First, you check you can have free refills of rice and cabbage in a restaurants.
Second, you order "Tonkatu teishoku". Teishoku means "a set menu".
Third, you put some special sauce on Tonkatus.
By the way, do you have shredded cabbage? My Canadian friends said we don't have shredded cabbage.
We have shredded cabbage with Tonkatsu.

special lunch for children

Hi Lucy,
I have been reading your blog for a few weeks. It is very interesting. Your English is very good.

I am cooking all the recipes in a book called "The Japanese Kitchen," by Hiroko Shimbo. Have you heard of her?

I made tonkatsu from the book. It's a bit scary to make because you have to deep-fry it in so much oil. A long time ago, I burned myself with hot oil. But the tonkatsu was delicious. There is also a recipe for tonkatsu recipe made with chicken. I will try it soon.

Hello!
Thank you for reading my blog.
Yes, we eat chikin katsu too.
My mother said pork is better than chikin for our health.

And Katsu needs a lot of oil. Sometimes it makes houses be fire in Japan..
We must not go away, when we cook Tonkatsu.
When I was young, my mother was used to cooking hirekatsu.(pork fillet) Now I make it for my sons. But usually I buy it...
You are nice person.
By the way, I didn't know Hiroko Shimbo. She must be famous in the USA. Thank you for information.
See you!

Hello Lucy, as you probably know we have a very similar dish to the Japanese Tonkatsu.
We also deep-fry it in oil, but some people use a deep pan to avoid burnings.

Pork being healthier than chicken?

All my life I have heard of the opposite.

SzélsőFa,
I had Rusian cusine which was similar Tonkatus. Rusian cusine is similar of Hungarian???

By the way, chickin is acutually low fat. But pork has a lot of B vitamine. Almost 10 times as much as B vitamine beef.
Of course "The last drop makes the cup run over."
But I think Japanese cusines have fish, chikin, beef, pork and lot of food stuff.
I think Japanese cusine is nice.

Oh yes, I'm sure about the traditional Japanese cuisine being very healthy.

Hungarian vs. Russian cooking?
I don't know.
I'm sure Hungarian cuisine is more like the Russian one - and both Hungarian and Russian is quite different from the Japanese one.
