Souvenirs
My mother- in-law gave us souvenirs which were made in China. She thought she bought one of a beef jerky. After we ate it, our opinion that it tasted like corned beef. We saw front of the package, we thought this animal was a bison.
The end, we read back of the package. It said "Ingredient tables: Fresh yak meat, vegetable oil, salt, and spice"
That was yak meat!! Yak and bison must be kinds of cows!!

PS. I like Chinese food very much. But I think this is just souvenir for foreigners. If we ate yak meet cuisine in Chinese reastrant, it would be delicious.

The buffalo, or bison, was a large, shaggy animal, with a massive head and humped shoulders. They roamed the plains in the 1800s and were hunted for their meat and their hides were used for warmth. As the country became more populated, they became almost extinct, and are now found in Yellowstone National Park, and private preserves.

So did it taste good? Bison and Yak are both related to cows. I've never tried Yak meat, but I'd give it a try.

Betty,
Hello! I cheked our kid's animal book. The buffalo, or bison, was a large, shaggy animal!!
But we can't see them. Maybe, there are a lot of yak in part of Chaina. By the way, some day I want to go Yellowstone National Park!!

Jay,
My older son said "it is not good." My younger son said "it is not bad. I like it."
For me, I don't like it. It was oily.
I don't know yak steak taste....

I would gladly taste it - either yak or bison.
I think the yak is more close to the goat than it is to the cow.
In fact I saw herds of buffalos. They are powerful animals.

Hi Lucy,
Yaks and Bison are members of the bovine family, just as cows are.
The meat is a different taste to cow, as Yaks tend to be more flavoursome, almost gamey (wild) in taste. The meat does tend to be a little oily, due to the animals tending to have a more natural diet. Cows for human consuption, are usually grain fed, so they grow quicker.

Cazzie!!!,
Really? In Australia, we can buy it!!
By the way, when we went to Ayers rock, we ate crocodole meat.
I forgot their taste.

Saz,
Vegetables are good for our bodies.
When my parents ware young, they ate boiled vegetables. I think old Japanese ate a lot of nice food for our bodies.

There are lots of Chinese restaurants now in Hungary, and many Chinese buffets (sort of fast food restaurants) as well. I have tried some of them and their cousine is interesting. I like the sour and hot soups the best.
