A big car
Our rental car was bigger than we required.
My husband had not been used to drive our car of left handle before he returned the car.
When signals were red, we could turn right in the USA. This traffic system was different of Japaneses.'
And when we thought a lot of American drivers parked their car, they usually parkd in parkings from cars of front.
(sorry I don't know what do you say in English.)

A perfect snapshot of cultural diversity.
Kieran,
I can drive a compact car only.
Hi Lucy,
A lot of people have issues with driving on the "other" side of the road.
Here in Australia we drive on the left hand side of the road, the same as Japan. I've been to many countries where you drive on the right hand side of the road, and I have no issue with changing over. I guess it is just the way my brain is wired, but most people can't do it.
When I was in the Middle East with a friend, he could never look the right way before crossing the road. I had to hold him back many times.
Driving different sized cars can also be an issue, but having grown up here in Australia, I am use to driving big cars.

Rebecca,
Honestly, I had been feeling to drive by myself in Japan after my sons were born. Because I am afraid of accidents. But if I live in Australia or the USA, I should not say it.
In Japan rodes are narrow. It is difficult to drive of big cars.
