Open school
Last saturday, we went to our older son's elementary school which, was a open school. Japanese open school is that waching chaildren in classes. Last saturday, they have been learning mathematics and Japanese.
My American friend said parents don't watch their children who learn in their children's class in the USA.

In Japan, parents have some chances to watch their children in year.

My older son has never put up his hand in the open school . My older son is very shy. He is always time afraid of his mistakes . I understand his feeling. I think he should do as he wishes .

Do open schools mean that parents can sit through classes ANYTIME THEY WISH??
Something that never happens here. We have special open DAYS, when parents are allowed to visit classes, but they are not allowed to visit on any ordinary day. And most of all, open days are for parents of students-to-be kids. If a parent can't decide as which school should his/her kid attend, than he/she can go to an open day and see how they teach.
As for your older son: Try to encourage him by finding our his best subjects, the things he is interested in.
At the same time you are lucky to have a calm and patient son and that he's not shouting the answer without putting his hand up, though. My son always does this. He is so impatient.

Szélső Fa,
Of course, anytime "ok" on week day. Saturday is usually no school. Therefore, parents visit on oridinary day which is setted by teachres.

And we don't choose public elementary schools. (except private school) Usually we enter
a elementary school near our house. That might Japanese way too..

Basically, a kid goes to the school that is nearest to the family in Hungary, too. But we have the freedom to choose among any school. There can be very significant differences between methods of teaching, importance of certain subjects, political or religious orientaion in varoius schools. Therefore parents carefully choose the school for their kids.
Some parents take their kids to another town if that particular school is so good for some reason.

But freedom whatever.
We can't pop in to see how our kid is taught. That's too bad.
On the other hand the kids do not behave the same way when a parent is present do they? So we'll never get to see how they are taught when we are not there.
I hope I was not too complicated.

Szélső Fa,
American friend said Japanese education system is beter than the USA'S. Because our children can get same way anywhere in Japan. But
the other hand, this education system is not originality. Therefore they said children can't imagine originaly things in Japan.
But Japanese educaition system is chainging more and more.

Anyway parents hope their children were taught by good teachers.

Yeah that's what parents can do: hope and pray for a good teacher for their kids.

I am a teacher...we don't have days like this in the UK. Our 'Open Day' is when parents come to our school before they decide to send their children to us

...kinda like a day to 'show off'

Hi Musei-ic, we have those days, too, as I explained above.

cool

i would hate parents walking around my classroom while i was teaching - the pupils don't act the same when they're their!

muse-ic,
I understand your situation. You say "pupil".
Thank you for your comments. I found a new word.
